Late Messi goal secures draw for Inter Miami against LA Galaxy. In typical Lionel Messi style, the inaugural goal from his boot in the 2024 MLS season arrived precisely when Inter Miami needed it the most. In their debut away match against the LA Galaxy, Inter Miami trailed 1-0 for the entirety of the game until the referee indicated extra time.
Sensing the urgency for a breakthrough to salvage at least a draw, Messi sprang into action on the field. Using his synergy with new teammate Jordi Alba, the former Barcelonastandout who joined Messi in Miami last season, he orchestrated a pivotal opportunity in front of the LA Galaxy's goal.
In a display of exquisite passing, the sequence began with Messi momentarily losing possession before swiftly regaining control with his left foot. He then located Alba just beyond the 18-yard box, promptly returning the ball to Messi.
In the process of moving closer to the goal, Messi made a magnificent touch pass to Alba, which resulted in Alba delivering a pinpoint pass into the center of the penalty area. Alba, on the other hand, was singularly focused on Messi, who continued his pursuit.
Stretching out his left foot, Messi connected flawlessly with Alba's delivery, leaving the goalkeeper helpless as the ball soared into the upper reaches of the net, leveling the score at 1-1. The atmosphere was electric, with a star-studded audience in Los Angeles for the occasion.
A record-breaking crowd of 27,642 filled the stands on Sunday, including celebrities such as Halle Berry, Hilary Duff, Edward Norton, and Lil Wayne, along with fellow athletes Novak Djokovic, Puka Nacua, Candace Parker, and Diana Taurasi. Before the game commenced, Messi even walked out onto the field alongside Saint West, the son of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West.
"Saints walking Messi out on the field tonight at the La Galaxy vs Inter Miami Game!!! He is living the absolute dream!" Kardashian wrote on X with an accompanying video.
This was just the beginning of what is expected to be a series of high-profile performances for Messi, who was vital in assisting Inter Miami in avoiding their first loss of the season. In their first game of the Major League Soccerseason, which took place on Wednesday, they defeated Real Salt Lake and got off to a winning start.
The first goal of the season was scored by Robert Taylor, who took a shot that was deflected off the goalkeeper and ended up in the net. Messi was the one who supplied the assist for this goal.
