Lionel Messi's World Cup dream finally came true when Argentina won their third world cupon penalties in one of the best World Cup finals ever.
Argentina won the shootout 4–2, after a very exciting game that ended with the much-anticipated matchup between Messi, 35 years old, and Kylian Mbappe, who plays for France.

At Lusail Stadium, France's best player scored a hat-trick, the first in a FifaWorld Cup final since 1966. However, France still lost.
Messi looked like he was going to get the one major award he was missing with ease as Argentina sailed to a two-goal lead.
All of this changed when Mbappe scored two goals in two minutes at the end of the game. This blew the game wide open and made it a match for the ages.
In the 23rd minute, Angel di Maria was fouled by Ousmane Dembele, which led to a penalty kick that Messi scored to give Argentina the lead. He was the first player in the history of the World Cup to score in the group stage, the last 16, the quarter-final, the semi-final, and the final of the same tournament.
Then, 13 minutes later, he added a nice touch to a great counterattack that led to Brighton's Alexis Mac Allister setting up Di Maria for the second goal.
Argentina didn't have to worry about anything until the last few minutes when Mbappe gave France a chance with a penalty kick and then tied the game with a beautiful volley.
In extra time, Messi put Argentina back in front, but Mbappe scored his third goal from the penalty spot two minutes before the end of a crazy, crazy extra time.
So, it went to penalties, and the first two goals were made by the two best players. But the goalkeeper for Argentina and Aston Villa, Emiliano Martinez, stopped Kingsley Coman. Then, Aurelian Tchouameni missed, so Gonzalo Montiel was able to score the goal that won the World Cup.
Messi finally won the World Cup. He fell to his knees in the center circle and was surrounded by his happy teammates from Argentina.

Tearful Messi Hits His Best

As time ran out in the World Cup final between Argentina and France, Messi was at the top of his game. However, Messi's great rival Mbappe threatened to knock him off and leave him in despair.
Instead, the famous Argentine got the ending he wanted from this World Cup, which will always be associated with Messi and whose final will go down in history as one of the best.
In Messi's last World Cup game, Argentina completely dominated a strangely slow-moving France for 80 minutes. Messi scored his penalty easily and then helped set up the second goal, which Di Maria finished with a beautiful team goal.
Then Mbappe came. France came next
Lionel Scaloni's team had to get up again after Mbappe hit them twice. The crowd of Argentina fans who were starting to celebrate the win was shocked.
Messi gave them hope again when he showed he was willing to do the dirty work by scoring on a scrambled finish in the box in the second period of extra time. However, Mbappe quickly answered back with a goal of his own.
But Argentina won on penalties, and Messi was the center of attention when Montiel scored the winning penalty by shooting it past Hugo Lloris, who was the goalkeeper for France.
During the wild scenes of celebration, Messi fell to his knees crying and raised his arms to the sky. He was then buried by his teammates.
Messi then went to the microphone to talk to Argentina's happy fans. He had reached his Holy Grail, which was another piece of evidence that led many people to say he was the best player ever.

In Defeat, Mbappe Made History

Mbappe's hat trick in the World Cup final made him one of the best players of the modern era. Sir Geoff Hurst scored the only other hat trick in a World Cup final when England beat West Germany in 1966. Still, the 23-year-old felt the pain of losing.
Mbappe was just as quiet as the rest of his team for the first 80 minutes, which was a shame because France played so poorly. They did this even though they were trying to become the first team to keep the trophy since Brazil did it 60 years ago, and only the third team ever after Italy won it twice, in 1934 and 1938.
Didier Deschamps, the manager, even made two changes before halftime. He took Olivier Giroud and Dembele off the field and put Marcus Thuram and Randal Kolo Muani in their place.
And yet, it was Mbappe who gave France new life in those incredible seconds when they went from looking like timid losers to like they could win. After Messi put Argentina back in front, Mbappe scored his third goal from the penalty spot to make it 3-2.
During a thrilling stretch of extra time in which both teams had chances to win, France could have won if Martinez hadn't saved Muani's last-second shot with his outstretched foot.
Instead, Mbappe won't find solace in history because, at the end of this exciting show, he was hugged by his teammates and French President Emmanuel Macron.
